I made it a point to always have a max out cryo chamber and take prisoners at any opportunity to get my wanted status lowered at the next station I stopped at. However, you can lower it through killing pirates, certain events and most of all, turning in cryo frozen prisoners. Wanted system, the longer you play the higher your wanted status, and the higher it is the harder enemies get. Many people mention difficulty, I think this is primarily for 2 reasons:ġ.

All have the same max energy, shields, weapon power etc. starting conditions are different but most ships are basically the same. fire suppression system, crew quarters, shield nulifier, warp drive to jump bigger distances, there are lots of options. more ship rooms to buy, currently only 4. Won't be playing again until they add a good bit more to the game. Tried all the different weapon types and combos. at 22.8 hours i've unlocked all the ships, played maybe 4-5 runs of the free roam mode, unlocked 77% of weapons and 55% of achievements.
